June 20th, 2018, Amherst, MA – North Amherst Motors is proud to announce and welcome Mr. Kelly Hughes to the mechanic team. Kelly will be responsible for servicing all customer and rental vehicles on a day-to-day basis.

He brings to the North Amherst Motors team over 38 years of direct experience as a mechanic, including 28 years of service management in the mechanic industry locally.

Kelly joins the Full Service Mechanic Team to offer oil changes and service, all-wheel alignments, brake repair and service, air conditioning diagnostic and repair, heating service and repair, tire repair and replacement, exhaust replacement, and suspension service including shocks and struts.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We wish you warmth and friendship on this day of thanks.

From everyone here, to everyone in your home, we are wishing you all the best on this holiday of thankfulness. We are excited to spend time with our families, and hope that you are able to be with yours.

We will be closed on Thursday, and will have a small group here on Friday and Saturday from 8am to Noon to help you with rental returns, pick-ups, and scheduling for our other services. Our repair staff will be home with their families and return on Monday, November 27th to resume repair services.

We are seeking an enthusiastic person for a full-time Automotive Detailer position for our collision, mechanical, and rental vehicles, as well as for commercial detailing services. We want you to join our team!

You should have a valid driver’s license with a clean history, which we do check. If you have Detailing experience, that is better, but we are happy to train the right person. We expect you to do automobile interior shampoo and extraction using our fabulous machine, as well as exterior high-speed waxing and buffing, and color sanding experience is a Super Star level of coolness. We do have a fast-paced environment, and need you to adapt with our rapidly changing needs as part of our team.

Driving in the rain? Use your headlights!

Mass. Law Implemented in 2015 Virtually Unknown to Residents

As many of our customers are aware, we are thorough when we put you into a rental car. We go over controls, and show you where everything is. We also offer you of a few important tips, including a Massachusetts law that seems little known.

In April of 2015, Massachusetts joined the ranks of Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont in requiring drivers to use full headlights in inclement weather. The measure unifies the entire North East with this safety precaution.

For many drivers, this is a revelation. We have had many customers tell us they were unaware of the new law, despite media coverage in 2015 before it went into effect. For other drivers, it is an inconvenience. With the ‘Automatic’ headlights feature, many drivers find they are completely unaware of when their lights are on. The feature includes sensors that allow headlights to turn on based on ambient light. It is often not fully understood, including any requirements that the ‘Automatic’ feature would not cover.

Many late-model vehicles now have indicators for when lights are on, which may also be misleading. For example, in the Hyundai vehicles, the green ‘Lights On’ indicator illuminates even when the running lights are on, meaning your headlights could be turned off. In daylight, it is more likely to go unnoticed, causing more potential for non-compliance. Some models may include a ‘Rain’ option in settings that is disabled by default. It is always important to familiarize yourself vehicle’s options. Take some time today to find out how you can be in compliance.

Tolls in Massachusetts – Big Changes Ahead!

New System takes Effect October 28th.

Massachusetts’ new Electronic Tolls

As many of you may have noticed, Massachusetts is joining several states with an all-electronic tolls system, kicking us into the future whether we want to go or not. The new system has many advantages, and a few disadvantages for our less-technology-inclined residents. Read all about it in the WWLP Story.

The new tolls system takes effect on October 28th, and demolition on the old booths starts shortly after that. It sounds as if you will never know they were there before winter takes hold.

New transponders are a bit unsightly, but do make it easier to fly down the highway. No longer will you need to stop, or slow down, when entering and exiting the turnpike, but it may cause confusion when you borrow someone’s car, or in our case, when you rent a car. If you are unfamiliar with them, they work by taking a snapshot of the license plate of your vehicle as you pass under. Or if you have an E-Z Pass transponder, it will also communicate with the device to automatically charge your account – if your plate matches. And if you do not have an account, or your information is incorrect, it will send a

North Amherst Motors is Ready!

To make life easier for our customers – and for us! – we are planning to add E-Z Pass transponders to our available accessories. This will help customers to take advantage of the discounts available to E-Z Pass holders, even in their rental cars.

If a customer still has their own transponder, they are welcome to use it. As always, remember to add our rental to your account for during your rental period, and then remember to remove it again after so that you are not charged for other customers’ travels.

Mechanic Framed!

“I was framed I tell ya! Framed!”

It is not every day that we have to do such an extensive repair, but recently a customer was rear-ended and the frame was damaged beyond repair. It is in times like these that our mechanic’s abilities is important, which is why we make sure they have certifications.

Step One – Frame Inspection

We can repair even the worst damage!

The first step is to find out the damage. Our certified collision technicians use our frame machine to decide the structural integrity of the frame itself. If it does not pass, it is time to order a new one.

Once the new frame arrives on the giant tractor-trailer, we unload it using special equipment, and place it in the bay with the old frame.

After inspecting the new frame, and dismounting of the rest of the body of the vehicle take place. For ease, we place the new frame in the same bay as the old one, making the transfer of parts faster.

Step Two – Mechanic Transfers to New Frame

Once the new frame is in place, and we disconnect the body, our mechanic begins the process of transferring the parts to the new frame. This process is time-consuming, and intense, and our expert mechanic takes the time required to make sure it is perfect.

frame. Once that is complete, the engine is finally removed and held until it is ready to place in its new home.

It takes a while, but the result is an almost new vehicle that is not only safe, but guaranteed to last.

Step Three – Our Mechanic Makes a lot of Noise

Now is the difficult part. If you have ever taken apart any complicated item, you know that it is always interesting trying to put it back together. Thankfully, our trained and certified technicians know just what to do, where to find the map, and how to follow it.

It doesn’t stop them from making a bit of noise as they do it!

As the engine is finally mounted, and our mechanic takes the time to piece it all together, hook everything back up, and test it.

Once satisfied that everything is in place, and all the pieces are in, and tested all the components and their functions, it’s time to move to the last process!
